Plant Propagation- What is it and how can I save money in the garden doing it?

$35.00

March 7th 1pm-3pm

Ever wonder about how roses are grafted or how to grow plants from cuttings? Well, this class is for you. Propagation made easy!

Participants will acquire hands-on experience in the art and science of the different types of plant propagation available. You will also take home a few of cuttings started by you in class!

Purpose

Students will learn about two types of plant propagation – seed planting (sexual) and stem cuttings (asexual) and recognize the genetic differences in these processes, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each method. They will gain a practical and technical understanding of the differences between asexual and sexual reproduction and the techniques used in both the commercial and home settings. Discuss propagation techniques including seed hybridization, vegetative cuttings, division, layering, grafting, budding, and tissue culture. Also learn about propagation equipment, growing media, structures, mist systems, and environmental conditions.

FREE lunch provided if you signup for both classes on the same day

—Classes will be held on our homestead in Sandia Park, New Mexico. See the map below for details.
